John Key’s Secuirty Staying in Campervan in Driveway
I read this article today, and it cracked me up. http://www.stuff.co.nz/4762703a11.html
The Diplomatic Protection Squad or DPS for short, provide security for the Prime Minister. Every time a prime minister is at home, the DPS are outside.
With John Key becoming the new Prime Minister, this has caused some headaches for them, as his massive mansion with 7 living areas is rather large, and if they are needed it could be quite a while before they could get to him.
When Helen Clark was Prime Minister, the DPS rented the house next door, but with the cost of renting in the street where John Key lives going for around $1100 a week, this isn’t really an option.
So for the time being the DPS are staying in a campervan in his driveway.
I can only imagine the good times being had in that campervan.
A couple of questions about it
- Do they need to run inside to use the toilet?
- How many berths does it have, a squad sounds like a lot of people?
- Will it be cruising around outside the beehive?
- In an emergency do they drive it to get to the house quicker?
- While John Key is not home, do they take it on holiday?
One option might be to build a small building for them to stay in on the grounds according to one source.

It’s kinda sad. With a job _that_ *important*, they could have at least given them a bus rather than the cheapest rental they could find.
